Information Please/Halon Extingusher Systems
I recently purchased a 1987 Formula 242 LS with the Halon System. I'm looking for any information on where to get these systems recharged or retrofitted. I know that Halon was outlawed several years ago. I would like to keep this automatic system active in the engine compartment. This is my first Formula and have always liked the style of the early Formulas.

I talked to my local fire extinguisher recharge company and they told me that the halon bottle is fine if the exterior looks sound and the release mechanism is not damaged/broken. Halon is no longer available because it is a suffocation hazard but it is much more effective than the new extinguishing agents that have replaced it. If you think yours is bad, there are scores of old boats being parted out .
