Default Mysterious Boat....Info needed

I’ve driven past this thing about 100 times and finally decided to stop in and look at it yesterday. I have been looking for a a fixer upper but this is way past my skill level ...I talked to the guy at the yard for a minute and he said he had no idea what it was or any info he was gonna cut it up and haul it off.
all I could dig up was a company owned by Harry Schoell under the name Nautical Engineering Inc which closed in 96
i can’t find any other boats for sale or anything for that matter....maybe this was a test boat or something.
engines were mounted way forward under the cockpit very strange setup. Curious if anyone knows the history ?

Yea, one is mounted in front of the cockpit and 2 underneath
very strange... There’s nothing forward and the fuel tank is all the way aft

Hull kinda looks like an old Signature that someone decided to experiment with steps . Maybe it's from the other side of the pond ?
I think this is a job for Lars !

Indeed it’s weird, I am not sure if it’s worth anything but figured I’d ask before the guy cut it to pieces.
here’s what the HIN decoder pulled up.
I don’t know if it was a test hull because I can find exactly zero other info on nautical engineering inc out of Ft Lauderdale.

Someone cut the top off so it was a closed cockpit at one time
