Default Buying a boat in Connecticut from out of state

A buddy of mine here in Michigan is looking at buying a boat in Connecticut. The boat he is looking at is about 14K. He wants to know if their is a way he can verify that the boat doesn't have a lien on it. He has not talked to the seller yet but he wants to be prepared before he drives 11 hours just to find out the seller has a SNAFU.

Yes, but there is a couple of avenues... Depends if it was Titled or Documented?

Please note Connecticut does not require title for boats just a bill of sale to registrar.

Correct, the trailer needs to be titled however.

I had to do the lien search myself for California and Arizona. Both had state agencies that maintained a record of liens. I think Arizona's was free and Ca. was a small fee. Arizonas was within the Secretary of State government site. Look for that in Conn. Might take a bit of effort to find.
