Default Info/Roll Call Holiday Run to CJ's on the Bay Marco Island

This is our 14th annual Holiday Season fun run and looks like could be the largest ever. The fun run will once again be going to CJ's on the Bay in Marco Island. There will be 2 departure groups on this run. Cat's and V-Bottoms of 100MPH+ starting at 10:45 AM and the remainder of the fleet starting at 11:00 AM. As usual we will start the run from the south side of the Sanibel Bridge.

Pete Boden will be flying the event and taking photos from the helicopter.

If you are able to join us, Captains should post on our OSO event thread, e-mail Tim at [email protected] or our Facebook group page by 3 PM on Wednesday Dec. 25th. Both the dockmaster and the restaurant must know in advance how many are coming to prepare for our arrival. Far too many sign up at the last minute which impacts the slips we have available and food/staff preparation for CJ’s. Lets avoid that this year by confirming your attendance by the deadline, please.

Since this run has been designated as a fund raising event to help fund our FMO student scholarship program, we are asking that each participating boat donate a minimum flat rate of $100.00 towards this cause. Use this link to pay your donation for this event: https://ftmyersoffshore.com/ft_events/c-j-s-on-the-bay-in-esplanade-complex-marco-island-2/ You will see the “Quantity “ button and “Buy Now” for that particular event. You must also have a current membership, if you renew now your membership fee is good for all of 2020.

Membership renewal: If you have not yet renewed your membership, now would be a good time to do so as the end of the year is approaching fast.memberships can be purchased at the link below: https://ftmyersoffshore.com/membership/

Starting procedure: Captain’s please read carefully. From the Sanibel Bridge, the first of two groups will start behind Eric’s 48 MTI which will act as the pace boat. Boats with a cruise speed of 90mph will be led by Eric and will start at 10:45 AM with all other boats holding their position at the Sanibel Bridge. PLEASE DO NOT PASS Eric’s PACE BOAT UNTIL THE GROUP REACHES THE BONITA BEACH WATER TOWER AND THE FLAG IS LOWERED. At that point the helicopter will return to the Sanibel Bridge for the start of the second group. The second group consisting of all boats with a cruise speed of under 90 mph including centre consoles will start at 11:00 AM. The pace boat for the second group will be Tim Hill. Tim will be in a 32 Sunsation CC. DO NOT PASS PACE BOAT UNTIL WE REACH THE BONITA BEACH WATER TOWER AND THE FLAG IS LOWERED.The reason for this is to keep the boats together so Pete can get as many boats photographed and filmed from the helicopter as possible. If everyone takes off on their own after the start, too many boats are not going to get their picture taken. Once the flag drops at Bonita everyone can then set their own comfortable speed. There will still be 30 miles of open water for the run to Marco from there.

Route: We will run a coastal course that will take us past Bonita Beach, past Naples and on down to Big Marco Pass and into the Marco River. A half mile into the Marco River, turn right into the first canal (before Snook Inn) making our way in the marked channel to C.J.s on the Bay at the Esplanade Marina.

Dockage: The public dockage at The Esplanade is located along the seawall(see attached pic). The dock master will do his best to keep as much dockage open for us as possible but he cannot turn the public away. Some rafting will be required so please have lines and fenders ready on arrival. The slips are privately owned, so unless directed into a slip by the dock master, they should be avoided. Please make sure you show your appreciation to the dock master and slip him a few dollars as I’m sure we will have him scrambling. Even if they do not help you tie up they are working hard for us. Without them we would not be able to make these events possible.

Fuel / Distance: The distance from the Sanibel Bridge to the Esplanade Marina at Marco Island is about 45 miles each way. All boats are urged to leave with full fuel, particularly if you use high octane fuel that is hard to get. 90 octane ethanol free fuel is available at club sponsor Pelican Pier Marina in the Marco River, just beyond the Snook Inn on the right side.

Pictures / Video: Pete Boden will be aboard the helicopter capturing running pictures of your boats. In order to shoot as many boats as possible, ALL boats must remain behind the pace boat until we get to the Bonita Beach water tower and the pace boat for your group lowers the flag even if your picture has been taken and even if you do not want a picture. The reason is, if boats start taking off from the group others start to follow and the photo shoot is spoiled. Once boats get spread out all over the Gulf too much time is lost chasing them down. This will ensure most boats get pictured but with a big fleet some will inevitably get missed. Your best chance for a great picture and to be included in the video is to stay with the pack.

In the days following the event, Pete will post pictures on social Face Book. You will have the opportunity to purchase pictures in the days following the run.

Food: C.J’s will be serving us with a buffet style lunch and each participant will be responsible to C.J’s for their meal / drinks. Wrist bands will be given out as you pay for lunch prior to going though the food line.

50 / 50 draw: At lunch we will be selling 50 / 50 raffle tickets. Draw proceeds will go into the FMO student scholarship fund. You must be present when the draw takes place at around 2:30 PM. Please support your Club, and the good work we are doing.

Communication: Tim's cell is 630-363-1986, and Cyndee's cell is 239-238-0777. If you have any issues, concerns or questions feel free to call

Safety: Each boat captain is required to operate his vessel in a safe manner and is responsible for his/her crew and their safety. When running in the ICW please be aware that this can be a high traffic area and we ask that other boats be given a wide berth and that the rules of the road be adhered to. As always please no alcohol for the captains. Our event is concluded upon reaching our lunch destination.
