I keep coming across 28 SS Sonics w/ twins or singles everyone seem to want out of them BAD!!!! Sonic stopped making them ?What,s the story how bad can it be if all the 26 prowler guy,s rave about 26 what,s the problem with the 28. Any insight??

never heard anthing bad about them......I think Sonic just decided it was better to offer the 26 and the 31. not much of a step up from the 26 to the 28 so whats the point? Dano would be the guy to ask....

The only bad I hear is with twins it,s tight between the engines and that they are heavy, It just seems to be a few really good buys out there, and before I go chase one I want to make sure that it,s not some Ill Handleing tank, Do like the room it has

I purchased a 2003 28SS Sonic that had 2 Mercruiser 396's (6.2L Engines with bravo 1 with 24 pitch bravo 1 props) in December 2007. I got the boat with 295 hours on it for $ 46,000 but did have to fix some owner neglect. Boat was in the saltwater for 6 months! Now in dry storage at marina. Had to replace cracked left engine gimball that was a pretty penny and upgraded the props to 26 pitch bravo 1's and had my service manager at the marina make the rotation go inward on both to get the max speed (63 mph at 4650 RPM's.

The 28 SS comes in different engine configurations, depending on what original owner ordered at time of purchase. This particular owner wanted fuel efficiency, hence the 396's so their is a loss of top end speed.

I do love the solidness of the boat and my boat handles real well in rough seas at a nice cruising speed of 30 mph in 3-5 ft chop and has plenty of speed for me at 63 mph in flat conditions.

Depends what is important for you: Speed or comfort.

I highly recommend the twin engine configuration.

I've nerver heard any bad on them, other than twin application in a less than 30' boat is tight engine comp.

If you do a 28 get one with twin small blocks, thats the way to go with them.

A friend had one with twin 502s crazy fast but porpiosed at all speeds go with built small blocks and you ll be happy

Through a couple of transmissions in that 30' with a couple of big blocks and it's still a tight squeeze.

I had a 1998 28ss and loved it. Back then I was running 78mph
with a single 502 worked with a 250 blower done by MRD. Boat moved and ran threw anything.
