That's right you can race offshore, out of sight of land, all the way from West Palm Beach Florida to Freeport Grand Bahamas. Distance of 100 miles each way, with a stop off and party over night in the Bahamas.
For those old enough to remember, I am talking about the re-creating of the Gateway Marathon of the 1960's era.
It will be held on June 5 -6, 2020
First entries have been received and are the Deep Vee of Nigel Hook and the Mystic Turbine Catamaran of Nigel Bhagan. More entries are promised from the racers of Trinidad and Tobago.
EXTRA - EXTRA - EXTRA................. OLD SCHOOL CRUISE
HORBA / SEARACE ...is organizing a Old School Cruise on the same weekend, that will be open to Historic Offshore Race Boats, that have been restored. This cruise will cover the same course as the Ocean Cup Race, but at a much easier pace at a different time. These restored offshore race boats will run over as a group and we are requesting a 50 to 60 MPH speed be attainable for these restored boats. (Depending on weather)
Modern Offshore Boats that would like to cross with the restored race boats, are also invited to participate. Modern boats will run in a different group as the restored race boats.
There will be hotels available for the overnight stay in the Bahamas. More info on available fuel and ALL THE DETAILS TO FOLLOW.

That is cool. Any reason you didn't pick Jupiter instead of Palm Beach? The West Palm/ Riviera Beach ramps are a little sketchy for leaving trucks/trailers (guessing you are using phil foster park or the adjacent Loggerhead marina for launching).
Guess I can't use this for the race!

We are using the same course as the original Gateway Marathon of the 60's. West Palm Beach to Freeport, Grand Bahama.
Nigel Hook used the same course for his run last year.
Launching from Phil Foster Boat Ramp and heading toward milling circle.
