Found an engine builder / machine shop that builds 496 strokers to sell.
Going to request a roller cam. Is there a certain marine cam that everyone goes for with these motors?
Also, I believe the scat crank that he uses is Cast. Will that be ok or should it be forged?
And one last thing. With 9.8-1 compression Im guessing 93 octane will be a requirement. If I was to fill up with 89 at the lake and use octane booster would it be ok?
Here's the build list in the ad;
496 Chevrolet big block stroker
540hp / 600tq
9.8-1 compression
Forged pistons
Long H-beam rods
Scat crankshaft
All new internals
New harmonic balancer
New HD flexplate
Stainless roller rockers
HD pushrods
Comp valvesprings
Block is line-honed, parralell decked, bored and plateau honed.
Cast iron heads , pocket ported
2.250 intake and 1.88 exhaust valves.
Engine does not include intake and valve covers.

going to order the forged crank .
The cam I was looking at is the comp 11-456-8. But I just learned about "reversion" so I need to look into that some more and maybe go more mild.

Cam threads are very common and opinions very but if you want a cam that's been proven over and over and works well in any 489-516 CI you might want to consider the crane 741 cam. It's an old grind but works well with GM rec port heads and aftermarket. Just a thought for you where you don't have to worry about whether it's going to work or not. It simply will and easy on valvetrain along with reaching your goals easily.

I never heard what exhaust you plan on using. Make all difference in the world when picking a cam. Build sheet has flex plate, you better use a flywheel 🙀

I was going to pull my stock mercruiser exhaust off and see how it looks but I would like to get a stainless marine or EMI thunder exhaust. And yeB flywheel! That was just the guys ad I copied, he builds motors for boats or cars.
