Interesting article and I'm sure opinions will vary wildly.

I could have saved everyone a few minutes of their life reading that. In 2018-2019, I logged in excess of 420K miles using Firestone Transforce and the Carlisle Radial HD F1 tires... I did not have ONE failure on either the truck or the trailer.

I have 7 trailers of various descriptions including construction duty units. I finally got sick and tired of 16" tire circus. I ordered 40 or so 17.5 tires and wheels. This is a commercial rated extreme duty tire. 4 years later not one failure ! Problem solved.

It seems like the main thing is to run a tire with ample (excessive) load capacity so that they don't flex going down the road.

I always cringed watching the sidewalls bulge on a lt tire while backing up my myco as well as feeling the trailer flex when hitting expansion joints.. then reading i found out that it puts way too much stress on the torsion axle.. i went with E rated gladiators and never looked back... best move i ever made.
