Why does it look like the boat has a wood core in 5he crash pictures?

Miss Geico in the crash pictured probably used a composite honey comb core in that race boat, which looks like wood after vacuum bagging

What year is that particular boat? Seems like a lot of damage repairs to not switch over to a new boat. Wasnt there a big sponsoon repair a couple years age too?

I think that one is a 2003, originally the Spirit of Norway, and previous to being the GEICO boat was one of the Qatar boats. It replaced the previous Victory, which was the old maritimo boat. I think that one was a '98 and had the big damage in Key West and St Clair.
