Default Working on a Kiekhaefer Trim indicator, any tips would be highly appreciated

Hello,

i need to replace the drive and K plane indicator cables on my 1988 Cigarette Bullet. I haven’t torn into one of the indicator panels before but I understand they can be tricky. I searched the forums and found an exploded view from the parts manual and that answered some question but not everything. Are the threaded pieces that hold it all together threaded into the bezel that’s visible on the instrument panel? Will i have to remove the nuts in the back to get the indicator to pull out of the instrument panel? Thanks for the help!

All the indicators that move up/down are little pegs on a spring. Once you take it apart they can go flying if you're not careful.

No way that was happening when I did mine. Cutout hole is too small and cables did not have enough slack. Mine had to be done behind the dash.

Thanks for the replies.

Griff, is number 7 in the diagram you linked to a threaded piece that is threaded into the outer bezel of the indicator? Thanks

Stud is threaded into bezel and then goes through the plate #13 with nuts to secure plate and sandwich it all together.

When reassembling, you need to use a thin paperclip or wire to hole the indicator pointers together. There are small pin holes in #22 and #24 for this purpose and you'll see what I mean when you get it out
