Im thinking of installing some in the engine compartment, what do you guys suggest, color, brand, looking for ease of installation, switched power from the dash is in place.

I used strips in tubes from Super Bright if I recall correctly. Everything was plug and play with a controller at the helm. It lights the bulge and the cockpit. Multiple colors, audio sensitive, etc.

I'm sure other companies have similar kits. Streetglow's website says NEW kits are coming.
You may find a NOS Streetglow kit on the web.

Strips from Superbright Led's here. Ditched the OE incandescent housings on each side of the bilge and used their wiring for the led's. OE switch already in place on the dash. Did the same in the gunnel pockets.
