Default Fountain To Showcase All-New Mercury 1350/1100-Powered 42 Lightning This Summer

Based on the most popular sportboat model in Fountain Powerboats history, the new 42 Lightning is coming this summer.

Interesting, one thing I don't understand is why people don't like split hatches. If you work on the boat (I doubt the owners of this one will themselves) I will take split hatches any day of the week.

The renderings look kind of cool but I am sure like all things fountain this thread will turn into a OL/Fountain/Cig chit storm like most.

LOL

Good to see the company moving ahead.

Wow,
A closed deck mono hull without a roof and concealed propulsion, when did they start making these ?

Hope they sell a few

I like it, maybe its the pics/modeling but the front bolsters look kind of big/too blocky. Cabin looks like it got some nice updates. No doubt it will be fast with that hull bottom and those motors.

I'd bet the right side throttles with be goofy to current Fountain I/O owners.

I kinda prefer the original design. The new windshield is messing it up for me....it doesnt flow properly looks wise.

The bolsters, if they are in the production boat look like a styling que from the big apache's with a modern twist.
Right hand throttles will appeal and be comfortable to everyone but die-hard fountain owners.... and the windshield is in keeping with the direct competition and has some throwback to Reggie's first 47 race boat (Red Gold deck where glass ran back into engine room) albeit that boat had the round windshield for the smaller stand-up cockpit.

Face it, they had to update the boat to appeal to a new generation and appease the die hard's... no one in their right mind, in a questionable economy will drop big coin on a boat that they can get in the OSO classifieds for pennies on the dollar (compared to the new 2020 version) if the boat wasn't a measurable update all around.

I wish them luck - if it sells, its a good indicator the company will thrive and the economy isn't as dire as 2008.

Per the story, moving them to the left is an option.

I wish them luck and these are nice updates. The new 38' they built a couple years ago was hideous and still hasn't sold....had the same old cabin door, swim platform and the new bolsters looked terrible...not too mention whoever picked out the paint job on it. Kind of like the Donzi Cat & 41 GT. Have they sold any of those?
