Default RE Watrproofing canvas

Anybody got the best way to accomplish this? Cockpit cover is relativly small and would probably fit industrial washing macine but the storage cover would never. Need to accomplish prior to winter hybernation, any ideas????

It seems you have 2 questions. If cleaning is the issue, simply scrub the cover on the boat and turn it inside out if the back is soiled. For waterproofing, if you visit the local canvas shops you can purchase waterproofing in a spray bottle or by the gallon and apply with any spraybottle laying around the house and you'll be good to go...

Great Question.
Can the mooring/cocpit cover go in a washer?
I need to clean and waterproof canvas also.

If you really want to wash it in a machine, use very mild soap and one of those huge tripple washers at the laudromat. Or a nearby hotel, if you can talk them into running it through once. DO NOT USE THE DRYER. It must be put back on the boat to dry. After dry, take the cover off, lay it out on the lawn or someplace clean and spray it. I use Aqua tite. Its expensive ($55 gallon) but works great. Hope this helps.

I friend of mine who worked for Glenn Raven Mills (makes Sunbrella) a few years ago, told me that Thompson's Water Seal works great. The same stuff that you use on your wood decks. Brush it on or spray it on with a spray bottle. It seems to last a few years between applications.

I sprayed some waterproofing on my old canvas cover. Seemed to work pretty well and last a good two years under mild exposure. The two complaints were: 1. it seemed to attract dirt. 2. The cover shrank and was almost impossible to put on. In fact, we even pulled the windshield frame apart trying to stretch to the snaps.

I tried thompson's and it sucked on canvas. I was told to try the stuff at west marine, probably will in the spring.
