Has anyone used the Schaeffer brand gear oils in Bravo 1 drives??

I have used their engine oil, 15W40 blend for 30 years with tremendous engine life and very clean engines in everything I own from lawnmowers and tractors on up. 30 years on a 1979 Snapper riding lawnmower motor literally with no smoke, oil usage, or excessive compression loss is pretty impressive.

Just want to try the gear oil because its convenient as i get a lot of oil shipped from them already.

Just a little leary of any cone clutch slippage with their soluble moly and other proprietary friction additives.

What are you going to use Kurt? I got a case of the 75-90 to put in my drives when I get them back.

I thought moly was a no no with the clutch ?

Boost... I hate to be the guinea pig, wanted yall to do that. haha. Actually hoped someone had. i will definitely put the info on here if we try it and if it works. But i hate to be the tester. Surely someone has used it, maybe not.


Drock... I believe I had looked at the # 293A 75/90, but will have to double check. I know they make a few different types.


SB.... yeah that's what I am worried about. Slipping.. My brother has successfully taken them apart and re-scuffed, re-sanded, or whatever he did and it worked when peeps would bring him slipping cones..
But that by itself is hours of work, and in middle of summer season, so may not be good idea.

Does amsoil, redline or others use moly? Seems very few actually state ingredients on a TDS like Schaeffer's does. They just say "proprietary" additives. I hate to be a tester after dumping 10k into them.

Of course Mercury won't tell you squat. Only that they reccomend genuine mercury products. Lol

I'm a believer in Amsoil products, but I put some in my Bravo XR once and the clutch slipped immediately. Went back to dino oil and the condition went away.

Only ones i have run were Merc, Bravo Shop, and last two years was Bel Ray gear oil. Just sooooo much cheaper. Of course price is really nothing if you have issues with it, so i would never something that i thought wouldnt work good to save any amount of money.
. Bel Ray said if you don't truly need the synthetics, as in low temps, etc, then the plain dino oil like the Bel Ray and others will perform just fine within the manf change recommendations.

Some say Merc is a "low bidder" type situation and no better than many other oils. Who knows. Does Merc really want it to be the best .... I doubt it.
