I’m really struggling with this decision so thanks in advance for your response.
I’ve ordered a Nor-Tech 340 Sport with the Fishing package. I originally ordered it with trip Merc 300 V8’s and rethinking my decision. I like to go fast and was thinking of upping the HP.
The boat will mainly be used for fishing and the occasional poker run and joy rides.
the salesman at my dealer is also a great friend of mine and tells me without a doubt stick with the new V8 300’s and just add a motor. Nor-Tech has already built their 340 with quads and say the boat handles incredibly well, has incredible acceleration, and of course is well into the 80’s.
at the same time I can’t help but think performance would be better with trip 400’s? Less weight, less drag, etc.?
What are your thoughts on this? I’d love to hear all the pros and cons to each setup.
thanks so much for your time!

My opinion... and we all know what to say about opinions.... Is that I would rather have a triple engine NT than a quad. I just think that they are a better setup. You can't go wrong with either.
Good luck, it's a tough decision!

I fish my 390 with trips and its a great application. I would shoot for the triple boat. handling is by far better. I dont think quads is necessary on the 340 at all. No need for the extra motor to fish. Also think about maintenance on the quad boat, definitely ups the price in the long run, and flushing each motor etc etc. Also FWIW, one of the reasons I went with a 39 instead of a 34 is there is WAY more room in the back to fish vs a 34.
Also, one of my motors stunk about 80 miles out today (just getting back home) and we made it with a loaded 39 running 2 motors and it was just fine.

Fuel pressure issue. When I went for my 100 hr service, fuel filters were on back order from mercury. "They" said it would be ok. So I'm thinking its the fuel filter. Dont worry, a 39 Nortech running twin outboards still pushes a comfy 60mph loaded up....

Just giving you a hard time. My brother has a 36 YF with Triple 350 Verados. He’s always giving me a hard time about I/O reliability versus OB.
