Is there an easy way to disable the automatic tab retractor feature on this system?

You have to bypass the auto retract module, mine had it as well. It's been several years but mine was under the dash and I believe it just unplugged it from inline with the tab switches or cut the ignition signal wire. Call Bennett tech line if unsure, they are usually pretty helpful. This is what it looks like:
