I have a technical question for any fast boat Brainiac's out there. I am finally looking at engine installations in my 1985 Kevlar 38 ft. scarab and the engine mounts that the boat came to me with are a tubular bull horn style. Having 454's with the 10 quart oil pans the mount pad to crossing tube dimension is too shallow. My question is in this type application is the apparent structural component of the tube mount from keel to stringer necessary or can I just build shelve structures on both the keel and stringers to mount the engines with pad and jack screw style engine mounts or will there be to much flexing due to the lack of the tube mount across the structures?
