22 ZX 90-100mph
I am searching for anyone with experience running a 22 ZX over 90mph. Currently the boat is running 86mph with standard bravo lower. I would like to know if a stand-off box and/or -2 shorty has been tried with success? Or even if someone has 700+hp running strong speeds. I have searched many previous threads without success.
This is for the 22 ZX not the classics.
Thanks!

well im not sure of the donzi but i can share running big power in a single hull we run a 24 or 25 active thunder early 90s we run a standard XR no extension box with 380 tabs natural 540 around 800hp we turn it up to around 6500 its fun and predictable into the 90s it may even go 100 but i don,t have those balls anymore its great here on the great lakes you have to drive it but you can always get home when the wind kicks up some 4-6 footers

A big part of the equation is what drive you are running. If you have a bravo you could put a shorty on it. Which should give you 3-5 mph. If you have a trs then their aren't a ton of options. Regardless of drive you would have to make at least 600 HP probably closer to 650 HP to be safe. Either a NA big cubic inch big block or a blower motor would make that power without trouble. The 454 would need a decent amount of work, including a blower to get up to the required horse power numbers. I have a 20 cigarette that ran 79mph with a 550 HP blown 454 and a deep drive. With some engine work, aluminum heads, cam, pistons, and rods, and a new IMCO SC-3 drive we are looking to make 650-675 and run in the low 90 to mid 90's.

I do not have a Donzi. I have a 20' cigarette, which is falt bottom boat. While its not the same boat, many people see similar results with drive changes. From what I have seen almost every boat drives better with a 2" shorty. Better cruising and top speed as well as sharper handling and more stable at higher speeds. If you are going to a shorty I would also look at the Max Machine Worx drive plate. It helps to get rid of porpoise and makes the boat even more stable at speed. It also makes planning easier. I will not be running my 3" shorty until next summer as i'm in the process of putting it on right now. If you are in the market for a complete IMCO-SC drive with a 3" shorty, I will have a fully rebuilt one for sale within a few weeks.
