Powerboat magazine said the 29 stepped hull with twin MX6.2 MPI's rated at 320 SHP each, tops out at 71.7MPH (radar).
Singles fly a lot better and top speed will be pretty close to where you are now. The twins will get out of the hole a lot better and will give you some redundancy, but they are harder and generally costlier to maintain.
However, Bravos behind 6.2's would probably last forever, where a bravo behind a single 496HO would have a lot more stress on it. So money spend maintaining an extra eng may be partially offset by drive repairs.

A bravo behind a 496 should last forever. Only 425 horsepower. The 29 single is one of the best balanced boats out there. If you want faster build a higher hp motor and either wrap and store your 496 or sell it to offset new engine costs.

I owned a 2006 with twin 6.2s for 5 years. With a full tank of fuel and just me onboard I could hit 71 on the GPS. This was at slack tide so I feel it is pretty accurate. I like the idea of twins. As I have no experience with the single 496 I really can't offer an opinion. II do know that the single 525 has a faster top end.
