I saw the ad for Les' Larry Smith 28 go online in OSO classifieds the other day. This boat launched shortly after my 31, and it's a rare model that looks stunning. Curious to hear from Les the performance numbers and owner history of the boat.

The boat was the original Splish Splash , then CF Express it race out of this shop back in the day. then Mike Stancombe bought it called it Rain X Express. It was originally a two seater then Mark Franz had us convert it to a three man boat so Steve Simon had somewhere to stand.

Thank You Dan. Someone stated that this boat was a 30, but I now remember you explained she's a 28. Ex. owner Clyde Petty really loved her when he raced her last year in class 4. If he hadn't got the opportunity with the single engine Phantom SV32 in the Super Vee Xtreme, he certainly would have kept her. I like this boat a lot, but Larry's 26 design is still the ultra cool one. Can't wait 'till you finish the resto-mod under way at your shop Dan.

Dan knows it well. I ran the boat one time with Rick Doria (Splish Spash) 1990. A buddy wanted to go racing P4 and he asked me about it. I was not involved in the purchase just the redo. Splish Splash with class motors was very quick and a wild ride but like a cat always landed on its feet. World champion. Once the boat got here it turned into a Dan project. It was totally stripped. All the work was done by people I know. It turned out great. As stated in ad new wiring stringers gauges paint interior. The motors checked out great but the closed cooling has been removed. Idk why. They have asked me to run the boat so will let you know on the performance. We keep dodging storms here in Texas lol. Covid took the racing thrill away from John so he moved on.

Thanks for Your info and stories Les. If the wild man from Vegas didn't buy Dan's 'new' 43, You certainly should take her on. She's got the looks to become one amazing chariot if done right.
