Default 662 vs 700 mercury racing engines

Is there a difference between merc 662 / 700 motor. Looking at a boat w a pair of 662 listed on motors / survey. Trying to figure out if there is a difference in horsepower or parts.

I thought the 662 was an EU certified spec engine (meets Eu emissions)

Built for export to the EU. To the best of my knowledge they have the same internals as a 700sci with different PCM's and possibly more muffled exhaust.

Pretty sure it was only a ecu tune.

I understand the 662 is a EU certified spec engine (meets Eu emissions). Would it still be considered a 700. If the pcm or ecu tune is different, Is the horsepower production lower than a 700??

Its 662 horsepower. Detuned fle Europe. I'd guess you could call whipple and get the horsepower up to 700 or above pretty easy

Throw a whipple stage kit at it and the engine will not care if it was a 662 or 700.....

Chev and GMC had interchangeable chassis parts for 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton - badging made the difference.

With the 662 and 700, Merc wouldn't build a limited run of a very limited selling engine so 99% likely it was a change in fuel and timing curve to control emissions which naturally, cost hp
