Hi All,
I was trolling around the lake last August and a very low RPM when my engine died all the sudden. Turned it over a bunch of times and it would not fire and there were no smell of fuel. I did some research and bought a fuel pressure tester and when turning on the ignition to activate the fuel pump, the gauge would jump to almost 30psi and then slowly lose pressure back down to zero. Took about 3 seconds to flatten out. I pulled off the fuel filter and it was about 1/3 full of fuel so I filled it and reinstalled it and the boat fired up and kept running. I used the boat a couple more times in August and September and it seemed to be fine.
I went to pull my boat out of the water the other day and the boat started but only ran at idle for a few minutes and died again and would not restart. I pulled the fuel filter off and again it was 1/3 full of fuel, I filled it up and reinstalled it again and the boat fired up and ran for another 30-45 seconds as I quickly tried to make it to the boat launch. I had to fill it twice to get the boat to my trailer.
Back when I was doing research after the first occurrence, I decided to buy an o-ring kit of 17 o-rings to rebuild the fuel pump as I was thinking air was getting in somewhere therefore losing prime hence the low fuel in the filter. My theory is the warm summer temps kept the problem o-ring(s) expanded enough to keep prime enough to cycle fuel and now that temps have dropped, the problem o-ring(s) have contracted and are letting more air into the system. I'm about to pull the fuel filter out and replace all o-rings but before I do, I wanted to reach out here to see if anyone has experienced this and knows if I'm on the right track or not.
Any feedback/insight/ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
