Default clear coat or to paint

just cleaned up the Daytona crash gearbox for the 21 ft ski boat, and seems a shame to paint the box again, as it came up fairly good
Anyone have any opinions of whether clear coating, (what brand) would stand up to the harshness of marine moisture, salt, humidity etc..
or is best to repaint with 2-pack?

Most automotive paint manufactures have a 2 or 3 step system that you can use if you want to clear it.
Basically it will be a step to clean it, than a step to prep it before clear. (different products for painting after or clearing after).
I have been using Matrix stuff lately but PPG is good as well just more expensive.

I don't think either will last as long as a clean, prep, epoxy prime, color system.

i checked out the matrix stuff by PPG
I checked out there clear which is 40% solids
I'm in Australia and have used in past engine enamel from KBS coatings DiamondFinish - Clear Coat - Application Instructions - Automotive Clear Coat (kbs-coatings.com)
The guys behind this company were involved with POR so I'm informed but these range of coating is next generation which has 60% solids and you can flow it on with brush and looks like oven cooked 2 pack, however works on bases of humidity
2-3 coats should be enough
KBS made in USA and Australia
cant be that bad?
Happy New year all you boaters

Is the housing aluminum or steel? If aluminum, and worth the hassle...taking it apart and sending it out to be anodized would be the cat's meow.
