Anyone out there know if there are any wireless surround
sound speakers for home entertainment that are worth a
crap. Everything I seem to find is a lower quality and most
are for outdoor use. I'm not looking for a SUPER high end
set but don't mind spending up to $1,000 for a set.

Any ideas.

Just outta curiosity, is being wireless necessity ?

If not, I have to say, I just picked up a sony 600 watt system a few weeks ago. It included all the speakers & a sub, a receiver, and a 5 disc cd/ dvd player.

To see how good it was, I took it to my friends, who has the Bose. We set up the speakers near his and put a cd in his, and then mine...........did the same with DVDs. He was very surprised that the one I got sounded as good as it did when cranked (which most of us don't listen to stuff this loud for the most part). Maybe someone with a really keen ear could tell the difference, but I couldn't.

Anyways, the system is less than a 1/3 the price of just the bose I think hes got the 12 series, but the speakers have wires.

I just think it's a lot of bang for the buck, and I'd let you know.

I have yet to hear wireless speakers that sound even remotely decent.

Wireless in not a need to be but it would be alot easier.
I'm putting them in my basement. It has a finished celing,
and of course no crawl space since it's the basement.
I could take the trim off the bottom and tuck the wires under
the carpet, but what do I do with the wires going up the
walls to the speakers? Maybe I can find some angled trim
pieces to put in the corners and run the wires behind them
and paint them to match the wall. I think that's what is
going to be done.

You can pull speaker wire vertically throught walls by only making two holes...one behind where the speaker will be, and one at the bottom behind the trim, and just pull it through...
You do not want the speakers in the rear corners...you want them to be a few feet from the back wall, on the side walls...

Heard many of them. Expensive ones are barely tolerable. Midpriced ones are only listenable if you think the speakers in your TV sound okay.

Several options.

#1 - run REAL wire around the basemolding.
#2 - as far as up the walls, you can purchase speaker wire TAPE that will handle 150 watts RMS and you tape to the wall and run to the speaker location. They are designed to be plastered over and painted if you wish. The tape is around 4" wide.
OR
if the speakers are close to a corner, you can trim as you describe over the wires (use 16 gauge or larger wire - don't use the skinny crap).


If you are using a basement, I assume you have furred the walls out and used drywall? If so, why can't you fish the wires up the wall behind the drywall/paneling/whatever??

If you have glued directly to the block, then I have my fingers crossed and wish you all the luck in the world regarding moisture seepage issues...

Also, if you have smooth walls, use an acoustical tile ceiling and/or place diamonds of carpet on the walls to soak up reflections (trim around the diamonds - can look cool). A hard, smooth room is a very unmusical one.

Oh, yeah... I forgot the most important point - duh.

Even using wireless speakers, you STILL gotta run the power wires to them.............

Ratchet, which system did you buy? That sounds like a Sony system I just saw at Circuit City.
