Default Mercruiser to Volvo

I am switching from a D4 Volvo(225hp) to a 6.2L Mercruiser Gas(300hp). I was wondering if it is possible to use the volvo unit and transom housing with the mercruiser engine. I have seen some things that would suggest it is possible, but am not sure. Any info/insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Volvo used the 5.7 block with there ignition and carbs or fuel injection etc. if they still use them it should not be a problem. If the engine platform is the same you should be able to transfer all the parts from the Volvo to the Gm block bell housing coupler etc.
Are you just getting a merc block?
