The long tube and flared exhaust diffuser causes transom lift, especially on fast small boats. On a high powered smaller single engine boat the diffuser is often cut off to increase bow lift. The diffuser is there to help keep exhaust from back feeding into the prop but we are not running exhaust through our props. The Mercury Max 5 is a modified Maximus 5 and has the diffuser removed and the blades reworked. It is supposed to increase performance across the board including top speed. I have one here to test soon on my Donzi 22. I'm not a fan of vent holes but if your boat has trouble planing and your prop has vent plugs then try removing them.

wConsidering I’ve only run with a 24P Bravo I on my 26 Outlaw, I’m not sure about transom vs bow lift. I have been told I will likely need a 28P with my new setup and that the Bravo I was the best option. Just looking for feedback from those that surly know more than It . Perhaps other Baja owners can chime in.

Here it is: Diffuser removal?
