Default Metallic vs Regular Paint

My boat is blue on the sides from the water line to basically the rub rail. To me it seems that the color is in the gelcoat and it has gotten worse for the wear. I have had it wet sanded buffed waxed compounded ext and it still looks like poop. Thinking about painting it and was wondering 1 what paint holds up best and 2 Does metallic paint fare better or worse than non metallic. Which one is better?

It depends on what you use. If you use single stage paint I would use a solid color. If you use base / clear it will not make a difference if it’s metallic or not.

Will add that, metallic takes a bit more skill to spray and achieve desirable results, as well. Just food for thought

If you're painting, use Imron (Axalta) if you can find it.

I always put two marbles in the paint cup and swirled them around after a few passes to keep the metallics spread out evenly in the paint

Emron is tough and lasts. I did a 13' back in '05, it shines right up
