My company had nothing but trouble when WE went to Navistar products.. Disappointed to see GM go that direction..

SURE HOPE it's a better product than the medium duty POS trucks WE had..

I just talked to a customer that just got a 2021 gmc 3/4 diesel. Its been in the shop for 2 weeks and they cant get the part to fix it. He said there were several other customers complaining about having trouble with their GM's. Ive got 73k on my F350. Dont plan on doing anything with it anytime soon.

That sucks... The 3/4 ton is a different product.. Made wholly by GM.. Hadn't heard on many issues with THOSE..

The neighbor bought a 1 ton Silverado Duramax and 30 foot 5'th wheel to see the Alaska highway last year. Rear end went out with less than 15k--no OEM parts available and Gm would not authorize aftermarket parts. A couple of heated conversations with corporate and they flew in some Timken bearings to get them on their way--a week later.

I believe the Navistar engines in this article are Navistar built Maxxforce. The new Chevy 5500 is a Duramax I believe. I've owned 2 Duramax 3/4 Ton Chevys over the past 15 years. Never had any issues and have always been very happy.

I can also say that I know 2 guys with Fords that have been in the shop more than out. From engine issues to the famed death wobble. Bottom line, each brand has it's issues

Interesting article. I thought it was Dodge/Ram who initially resisted DEF technology, at least on the 1 ton and down market ?

I also seem to remember the courts having to get involved in a Ford vs Navistar pissing contest; the way I heard it was "Ford, you're going to pay for the motors you bought" and "Navistar, you're going to ship the motors and continue to support them" or something similar. If memory serves Navistar was claiming it wasn't their engines which were the problem, but rather the electronics Ford was putting on them.

Parts availability is an issue for everyone since the pandemic, regardless of brand or industry. The definition of "Back Order" is "We just planted the trees to make the boxes for your parts".

The pandemic and resulting fallout from supply chain disruption - all the way from actual production to shipping issues - is going to make a very interesting college class not too far in the future.
