Spark Plugs for a 496magho $$$$

Went to buy plugs from the marina and found ou that these plugs are $14.50 a piece
WTF are they gold plated
I find it hard to believe that they are that expensive. In addition they are on a month or so back order.
Anyone else pay this much? Where can I get them cheaper??

That's about what I was quoted too at the marine when I asked about them. They wanted 16.00 each...That's a fuggin $128.00+tax plug change...my jaw dropped and I walked out.
I must say though, the plugs(and ignition system) are pretty damn good on this engine...150 hours now and not one sputter, slow start or loss of any kind, etc. I still hold the exact rpm as the first time I opened it up to WOT.
I hope they stay that way.

I used to change my plugs in my older boats(454 and 502s) at least once or twice a year depending on how much I use it.
I was leary to say this at first but with the new 496, its got me thinking do we really need to? Look what Baja Daze just wrote, not one sputter or anything. Also Dennis Moore posted a little while ago that we dont need to change our plugs very often. Check the link Griff posted. And in my opinion Fam&Perf has the best tech articles out there of any magazine. And if I am correct, I believe he said there was an article or will be soon on this subject. I couldnt find the post that he said that though.

Hey Baja Daze Just wonder if your still running with the same plugs? I got two seasons and 220 hours on mine with no problems. Maybe I should add new plugs to my xmas list.

Yep, I'm still running the original plugs. I pulled them about 2 weeks ago and they look great; perfect actually.
I turned 200 hours recently and, I haven't lost one rpm since day one!
I guess they're worth the price after all. I bet I can get another 100 hours on them.

Had it out for the last time yesterday,
232 hours and not a miss. Still hitttin the limiter
and same top speed as new.
Check the manual bit I think it said 500 hours.
I went to buy plugs for my tahoe, about the same
price but the guy said there good for 100,000 miles.
I left, I'm at 82k. John
