So, I’m obviously out of touch with this boating poker run stuff. First of all, I’m not a long time performance boater, but I grew up boating a lot. Nothing fancy, but fun and food on the table. My current boats not a top contender but not an embarrassment either. My poker run experience mostly comes from bikes. 2005 Harley Duce, and I really enjoy the poker runs I’ve done. Never seen these poker runs being about speed. Now to me, these boating poker runs like the one here are a horse of a very different color. Why would a poker run be dominated by 100 MPH + boats when the poker hand has nothing to do with who gets there first? Is the objective just to show off the money boats and if so, why not a simple race? I rarely see advertised what I would consider a true “poker run”. It’s odd to me that with the number of “regular folks” boating we don’t see more poker runs advertised. Could it be that boating poker runs have been hijacked by a minuscule exclusive crowd, or are they the only ones interest in raising money for worthy causes? I’m sure this post will get some interesting responses.

Now that being said, the videos try to capture all the participants but obviously a 100 MPH whatever loaded with hot chicks in bikinis will get more air time in the video than a smaller boat with 2 dudes on it. I've participated in every FPC run with the sole exception of Emerald Coast (too far to travel to). My 32 Sunsation ran WFO at 73 mph and we had a great time but the boat was never the best/fastest at any event.

I too am new to this area and powerboating. Does anyone know the route from The Wharf to the Flora-Bama on Friday? I live on the north side of Perdido Key on the Old River and if you are coming around Ono Island and traveling east to west on the Old River then I will cheer you guys on from my dock... until I am ready to join the fun.
