Default Insurance State Farm or Markel?

Any experiences with either?
These are the two I am currently looking at. State Farm is about $100 cheaper per year. 1986 Formula 242 w/500 hp.
Thanks in advance.

State Farm said they would insure my Cafe, then a couple months later sent me a cancellation notice that was to take effect July 3rd. **** them.....

Never had a ticket or claim on my life and was an existing customer. That was 15 years ago though to be fair

I have SF on my Cafe, they have very competitive rates, Geico and Progressive were 300 or more over SF. Sent in pictures and talked to my agent, no problem.

Honestly I'm not sure what the issue was, because others have SF, I think I was more disappointed that my agent didn't fight to resolve it.....

I had SF with my 312 and then 382. One small claim which was handled excellent. Probably has alot to do with the agent but my experience was long term and good. For some reason they are WAY more expensive on my 400ss.

I've always had State Farm. A lot depends on your agent and how much business you have with them. I got the cancellation notice a few weeks after I insured my AT with SF. I called my agent and he had already called corporate and gotten the cancellation overturned.

I had state farm for my truck and had no complaints. When i asked them to quote my boat my agent gave me a price which was $435 a year. I asked him details and coverages and he said state farm doesnt have any literature on that, basically i would have to start a policy to see what was in it. I could cancel it then if i didnt like it. Said no thanks and moved all my insurance else where.

State Farm has everything to do with your agent.
My first agent, I was with for 20 years. They went to bat for me many times with underwriting, custom cars, trucks, etc. etc. They insured my 37AT. They just told me to "take pics that doesn't make it look so pointy." They insured it for 13 seasons.
First agent and staff just retired, so I moved to a local agent, since I now also live 100 miles away from the first one.
Second agent and staff are EVEN BETTER than the first.

OP you need to compare like boats, apples to apples, Markel denied me because of the modified engines, another company wanted a new survey when the one I have is just two yrs old, so I ended up @ Total Dollar

Currently have Merkel, policy is up. Just changed my autos, motorcycle and home to State Farm. State Farm is $100/yr cheaper than Merkel same coverage except no Freeze protection.
Autos $150/mo cheaper than GEICO, Motorcycle about the same $$'s as was with Progressive (did not like the agent) and can put limited on for winter.
