Hi, I am looking to repower my 99' Fastech271 and sell my 98' 502 MPI. The engine was rebuilt in 2013, bored out 030 and is running with a maximum of 50 hours on the engine. I had a leak down test done and the rear cylinders were reported as out of tolerance two years after the rebuild. I was not happy with the shop because they didn't keep specs. I am hoping to get a friend to do a better job, but I'd like to know the best honest way to sell the engine to recoup some of my investment in it. The engine has CMI Headers and I am thinking of selling those separately. Any suggestions on the best way to sell this would be appreciated.
I am discussing with a shop that could repower the boat with a new 496 HO with three year warranty. Comes complete with exhaust manifolds, so I'd eliminate the headers which I've been questioned if those caused some of the problems I've had. I'm going to contact Formula as to that repower to get their advice as they sold the 271 with the 496 in later years.
