Default Need a little prop help

Hi
I have a 1987 formula 242. ls mag 452 with an aftermarket intake manifold and crane cam that was installed by one of the previous owners.
I trying to get on plane somewhat faster than I do now. Currently turning a Mirage 14x21 stainless 3 blade. I would like to try a stainless four blade. I have read and been told that when changing from three to four blade props you usually drop down one pitch. I did try a turning point 4 blade 21 with no notice left increase in performance.
Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I know the 242 ls is not a speed demon, but I would sacrifice a couple of mph for better low end performance.
Thank you
Tony S

There is a Rev 4 in swap meat today, 19" pitch may be a little light for your motor but will surely get out of the hole very well and couple up solidly at cruse. These older Formulas seem to like the Rev 4s

Rev is the one that my friend has In his 242, and It was huge improvement over mirage plus. There Is nowdays also few merc bravo prop lines that is starting from 19" pitch or lower. GLENAMY 242SS have you measured your drive/prop shaft height?

Factory stock, as I remember it is 7or 8 inches. Everybody I know with 242's use the Rev 4. Also I have no prop torque steer with mine. I am sure some will chime in

Thanks for your reply and information. I think I’m all set with the prop shaft height as I tried a 4 blade 21 turning point aluminum Any thoughts on Solas props?
Also, what part does prop diameter play. I believe my 21 is 14 diameter.
tThanks again.

Maybe, I wasn't clear enough, I will be purchasing a stainless prop. You have been helpful with your suggestions and recommendations.
My apologies,
Tony S.

Get the rev, you wont regred it. Powertech OFX 4 blade might work also. Not so much options because of the low pitch you need.

many thanks for your advice. Will let you know how I make out. Love the boat, just need a little more out of the hole. Usually with a full boat.
Regards,
Tony S
