I am rebuilding two Mercruiser 502 MPI Magnums and have a question on the number 5 cam bearing oil feed hole orientation. On the GEN VI block there is a groove in the block under the number 5 cam bearing so the bearing will get oil no matter where the oil feed hole is but looking at the oil passages there appear to be two oil inlets to the channel from oil galley feeds and one exit to send oil to the distributor / cam gear interface. It seems the only place to avoid putting the cam bearing oil hole is near the distributor gear oil feed. Is there a recommended number 5 cam bearing oil hole orientation on a GEV VI block?
Thanks.
Thanks.

When there is a groove behind the bearing I always put the oil hole in the 2-3 o'clock position looking at the front of the enngine as it sits in the boat. Here is a diagram from the Durabond web site.
