With the wealth of knowledge and connections available here on OSO, I hope someone can forward this to the right people and this guy gets the recognition he deserves.
The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival kicked off last Sat and on Monday the ships did the parade up the harbor and moored alongside the wall. My wife and I snagged a spot right next to where the Mackinac (Icebreaker, largest USCG ship on the Great Lakes) moors and we had a great view of her captain walking her sideways and then the sailors securing lines. Prior to mooring, the USCG sailors have to work crowd control and keep people back from the mooring pylons. The sailor in the picture spent about 30 mins carrying on a conversation and answering every single question this bunch of kids could throw at him. He didn't talk down to them, and when they finally wandered off, they left him with high fives and hugs. I thought the guy was a fantastic ambassador for law enforcement, especially during a time when so many are pushing the "defund" rhetoric and painting law enforcement as the bad guys. My wife and I appreciated how he handled the kids and told him so as did many others in the area who were watching. It was a very cool moment.

Nice to hear stuff like that
While we were at St Clair River races last weekend, sheriff's rescue boat pulled close to the wall and tossed a kid's soccer ball back on shore that wind blew into river.
Was nice to see smiles on the kids' faces when they got their ball back.
