Default Transducer Install

I'm curious if anyone with a stepped hull Fountain has had issues with their depth finder reading erroneously when up on plane? I own a 2004 38EC and find as long as I'm in the displacement mode my depth finder reads perfectly but when up on plane I get all sorts of odd depth readings. I suspect it's due to the stepped hull injecting air bubbles along the bottom when underway, and of course the transducer can not read accurately through air bubbles. The transducer in my 38EC is a "in-hull" type and mounted about half way point in the hull. Does anyone know of a good way to mount a transducer in a stepped hull boat to eliminate this problem?

Hanging it externally off the transom would be better but even there aerated water will still impact the depth readings. Read this https://www.airmar.com/uploads/SpecA...ation-tips.pdf

Thanks for that link. After reviewing that document I think I found the problem. I'm pretty sure the transducer on my 38EC is not mounted in front of the hull steps. I'll need to look into this with my new install.

As long as that area remains wetted and in contact with the water it would work. Also if the hull is cored with a foam material in that area a transducer will not work. It must shoot through solid material.
