Just got my bravo drive back from complete rebuild. I noticed two issues immediately during first time out.

1. Reverse shift sometimes had a delay, 1 sec at most. I did use the merc tool to check the throws at the plate, they were right on. I understand there is another adjustment that has to do with the inner core. I have not done that yet.

2. Very apparent whine at all speeds. I’ve got a ten hour break in period. Unsure if this will change after more time on the drive, but it’s pretty loud currently. Maybe I got a bad upper gear set. Not sure. I put the first hour on it yesterday, no apparent changes after the initial hour.

Thoughts?

Does it have gear lube in it?

yes, came filled with merc high performance. I topped off after installing from the drain until I saw the lube monitor filling.

Does it have a new cone clutch,,a worn clutch can cause a shift delay.

I just did one of my drives, both where so quiet i never heard any gear noise, rebuilt port drive complete new internals per mercury specs and it sounded different than starboard, i now have 10 hours on it, changed gear lube 3 times just to make sure everything was good, perfect gear oil, i know back in the car days the richmond gears always had more whine than factory, so im going with that rationality
i had another friend have his bravo 3 rebuilt last year and he also said it sounded like a whole different boat, he has 20+ hours on his now

There should be no noise like that out of the drive

So far as the shift, something is wrong with it taking time. Could adjust the barrel a turn or two but still think something was not done right

I'll use the word "noise" lightly, it just has a more noticeable gear whine when shifted into gear from idle, no person would ever notice it, i only did because i know how it sounded before, maybe im wrong, but everything ive read on here points to different gear sets have different sounds

Have you talked to or demonstrated these problems with the mechanic or vendor that performed the rebuild? If you wait too long any warranty or claim will be voided almost instantly if they are not involved very soon. Good luck.

yes, they want me to get through the 10 hour break in period and report back. If it’s still whining, they want it back. As far as shifting, they want me to verify the “course” and “fine” cable adjustment.
