Default Fountain Engines mid 2000's (non mercruiser)

Happy New Year! Kind of an odd one here, so thought I would run it by the group.

I bought a 98 Fever out of Michigan over the summer and brought it down to it's new home in Missouri. The motor was a 540 w/ a BowTie block and that's about all I knew. The owner didn't have any information on the build from the guy he had purchased it from.

I noticed a little blue smoke at startup, so figured I'd take it in for seals/guides to address that and give it a once over. Oddly enough, the shop recognized the motor as one they had built back in 2006. I believe they stamp some of the parts as well, so they have something to ID. I stopped by earlier this week and he was telling me they used to build a packaged engine that was be shipped to Fountain and installed by Fountain. I think he's going to provide me with all the paperwork, but this originally went in a 27 or 29'. He knew everything about the motor and that the carb and disti had been changed out as they weren't part of the standard package (which the previous owner changed and I have receipts for). The guy know his $hit no doubt, so I don't doubt what he's saying, just never heard anything about it. Curious if anyone else has and if anyone else has ran across one of these motors? They ended up putting out around 650hp and tq was in the 600's as well.

Pretty wild I pulled this thing three states and end up taking it to the shop that originally built it.

Not sure what shop you are dealing with, but Innovation at one point in time was building "Fountain" engines. Mercruiser put the kabosh on Fountain building/supplying his own engines by refusing to sell him drives alone.

Indeed it is. They know their stuff. Chip was telling me a little about it and I thought it was pretty cool.
