I thought would start a gas/fuel thread a little different than the current “Gas” thread.

I was driving home from work and passed a gas station that was at $4.25/gallon for regular gas. My brother was with me and asked “how high before I change my plans and scale back?”.

I thought that was a great question to ask here.

My boat is very small and mild (Formula 242LS 502 Mag MPI) compared to many of yours (We are one of those dreamer/droolers), but we still love to attend poker runs (as spectators) and watch many of you run hard. I know what I can burn running hard in an afternoon and can’t imagine what some of you may burn.

I told my brother the season is so short up here in MI and we only use the ole girl about 50 hrs/season, I’m still all in but I have started thinking and done the math a couple times with fuel prices and 100 gallon tank…..and I am on a trailer, can’t imagine what marina gas will be.

So the question to you all is this:

How much per gallon before you start thinking of scaling back your boating plans?

When i had my old boat and prices went up before...it didn't stop me from going out on the water....just didnt run it as hard or as long...more of a get there and hang out all day kind of trips

Run slower, stay closer to home, enjoy looking at the boat on the lift a little more, maybe sit on board and crank some tunes while sitting on the lift once in a while. Hell, I don't travel that far most boat days any way. I'd just take more time to get there.

^^^^ less fun runs and maybe more nearby dinner cruises.

My plans won’t change much. Boating is my hobby. Yes I’ll grumble some when I fill up but I also grumbled when the price my son’s chicken nuggets went up. Like you said, boating season is short and random crappy weather on the weekends make it even shorter. My stock 502s are not horrible on gas.
So at what $ does my plans change? That’s a hard question to answer.

Won't change much, maybe this will drop boat prices and I'll move up.

I dont think it will affect many with high performance boaters, as someone stated fueling these things is the least expense of operation and keeping them running, 93 on the lake was about 3.50 a gl last yr, I remember paying 4.25 in 08 09 for premium on Table rock.

Heck, if you own a boat with Bravos thats what you do 50% of the time anyway! LOL

Guess it depends on your baseline. Here, our fun run season is winding down so the 50+ gal an hr boat can go back in the shed. But red snapper season opens in June, different boat but long runs, if it does hit 8$ and I don’t back off some I’m looking at 3500$ a week.

It's $5.29 a gallon at Table Rock at the moment. 90 gallon tank in my boat. I always have a loose 'fuel budget' for my lake trips of $600 for a 3-day weekend/trip. Last year that allowed me to run a lot of miles and not do a lot of coving out. This year will shift slightly to more 'resting than running', but I bought the bigger boat to RUN, not sit so...I will just have to budget more $$$ for fuel. At $6.50 per gallon I would seriously scale things back some.
