To the best of my knowledge, the Magnum 27 was designed by Harry Schoell around 1967-68 (?) and the Cigarette 28 was derived from the Magnum 27 molds. There are definitely differences between them. The Cigarette 28 is generally a lighter construction, there is noticeably a scallop moulded into the Cigarette hull just below the rub rail and there are probably subtle differences in the length and width of the lifting strakes on the bottom. They both handle big water extremely well. The Magnums are built like tanks and are a bit heavier. If it's speed you are looking for the Cigarette 28 is probably the one you want.
