Fake yacht basin at Miami F1 race
#1
Anyone hear about the bizarre fake yacht tie up they will have in one of the turns in Miami? The want the Monaco feel so apparently there are going to be some yachts on dry land with some fake water around them, a beach with tiki huts and the like so that people can view the race from their yachts.
so odd…

Looks a bit tacky, something you’d expect in Vegas.
Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne tried something similar back in the late 90’s but at least the track is built around a lake and they used real boats! The lake is very shallow, they craned in a few fly bridge boats about 35’ long and a handful of smaller craft but propellers had to be removed so your boat was just a platform to sit and watch the race. It was pretty costly for the boat owners and if they were lucky enough to be in a fly bridge, they got a quick glimpse of the cars going around one corner, named “The Marina”.
Big waste of time.

Dont even get me started. First, the man made lake, they literally dug a hole, put a liner in it and filled it with water. Its a bunch of 35-40 foot boats. I hate to tell you but that isnt comparable to Monaco and 100 ft yachts - its very cheesy at best. Its turned into a real chitshow. For the folks that dont follow F1, its a 3 day event. Upon talking to "F1 Experience" back in October it was supposed to be an event that rivaled Monaco. Put down a $5000 deposit. I was supposed to be going with a group of F1 fans and race guys. After the $5000 they called in November and said VIP is available. They were $18,000 each or $26,000 each for the full experience. So, the $18,000 tickets (each) included hanging out at the HAAS tent, but at the time HASS was the worst team on the grid. So, back to all the guys that were supposed to go. My buddy Frank is on the Ferrari band wagon. Been to Imola, SPA and laughed his azz off when he heard the price and told them to go F!*K themselves. (FWIW, he wanted to take his whole family/6 people) His hilarious comment was "I met Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettle in Imola and hung out on the Fkn grid for $5000" In Miami there was supposed to be live entertainment Friday and Saturday night of top-shelf performances "at the same level as Taylor Swift or Adam Levine" or so I was told. Usually the tickets get you into all 3 days of practice, qualifying and racing as well as nightly performances. I got two tickets for me and my son - $6000 near the start-finish. I still dont have the passes, still dont have the badges, and to my knowledge, there are NO nightly performances... Typical Miami bull****.

Looks like 3x Midnight Express boats in that photo. The giveaway is the gray with blue interior 52 Vitesse that was at the boat show. Looks like the 60 "Pied-a-mer" also.
