Default Steering pumps.

With twin 496 ho’s, Latham steering, do both motors control steering? Blew seal on port side, lost most of the oil. Can anything cause this to happen all of a sudden or it happens. Never leaked before. Pump got super hot, so I guess replace and not rebuild? Just wasn’t sure if both motors supplied steering, just towed in not to burn other pump.

Yes, they both have steering pumps but use a single reservoir. I once had a terrible noise coming from one and was able to put on a belt that routed around the pump and kept boating while waiting for a new pump. Only drawback would be if engine with the good power steering pump were to die.
