Default Sealing the unprotected wood in transom hole

Replacing my swivel shaft from the inside, and to get proper access I've cut away excessive wood in the transom hole from the inside blocking the way to get to the top nut. That's bare plywood now, it was initially covered with the original paint (gelcoat?) of the engine compartment. What schould I use to put on there? It's a really tight spot but I can get in there with a brush. I'm thinking some sort of epoxi, but which one? Is there a specific process to follow if I where to try to put epoxi on there?

Before (original cut-out)

After opening it up.

Plenty of room (well...) for a open edge wrench

I'd simply prep it good with some acetone or styrene and then put a couple of coats of polyester resin on it.

I did 2 coats of Rustoleum Enamel. I thinned the first coat a little and the wood sucks it in, then the second coat leaves it coated.

paint won’t seal anything…epoxy resin will.

Decided to go with West System 101 mini pack. That's 105 epoxy resin and 205 hardener. Put two coats on, should seal it up nicely. Since it's a space where the sun don't shines, I won't paint it. It just needs to be protected from normal air humidity basically.
