Default How Much Is gas @ PIB Gas Dock Now?

They really screwed us last year. This year I might fill the back seat with plastic gas cans and throw the empty cans up under the bow as I empty them. PIB is a 160 mile round trip lunch run from where I put in on north Lake St. Clair. Gas is under $4.50/gallon now here on land. (I never thought I'd think that was a good price!)

Don't know price at the bay but in west harbor it is just over 6$ a gallon.

For peace of mind I would just pay the pump price vs. hauling multiple containers of gasoline. As is frequently repeated on OSO, fuel is the least cost of boat ownership.

I know but $60 saved plus the Dock & Dine coupons will pay for dinner.

I wouldn’t want to risk spilling gas on my upholstery and leaving a gas smell in my bow for $60.

Containers full of fuel, waves, sun & heat, I'd rather pay the fuel price at the dock. Also considering filling & not spilling anything.

OK, Good points. We did this once and it went ok but kind of a hassle. I guess the $340 lunch run (last year) is now the $580 lunch run. But "this is the pain we must endure as we transition from fos...."...Oh, nevermind. It'll still be worth every penny.

When you feel yourself doing something stupid...........STOP! (I love that line).

Tale of 2 38's:

Had 2 friends with 38 ft boats, they were actually neighbors a few houses apart and good friends. One boat was a Powerplay, other one was a Top Gun. PP owner ran the balls off the boat, literally would just put it in the water to go for a ride, filled at a local marina and $500 was simply the cost of going fast. The TG owner was a cheapskate, he used the boat but literally was concerned every hour reduced resale, worried about the headers etc. He lived within sight of the fuel dock, yet figured he would fill 3- 50 gallon barrels with fuel in the back of his pickup and drive 2 miles home then siphon the 150 gallons down to the boat using garden hoses................to save $150 ($1 a gallon). To me a slight glitch would ruin any savings never mind an actual fire or something catastrophic. My one liner: 1 minute in a burn unit wouldn't be worth $15,000 in savings to you at that point.

In the end, they both lost about the same amount of money on the boats, though the Powerplay owner put 400 hours on the boat (TG owner probably 240 hours).

Did a couple of fill ups this past week at LOTO. $5.62 for 91 octane. Never gave it a second thought. I own a boat. I love to boat. It’s the least of my expenses. My food/bar tabs far outweighed the fuel over 8 days.

I get it but my money tree isn't blooming and I just put $5,400 into my drive and I had a root canal that insurance didn't cover and my dog threw a bone into my 65" tv and broke it and ...... oh well, we're going boating.
