What the above article does not tell you is how long it had to re-charge. I had heard about a similar test about 2 weeks ago Compared the EV to a gas powered and the time to charge vs the fill up and on your way with the gas truck. Saw the electric outboard cat at the Shootout Street party last night. Battery packs were supposed to weigh about 250# each (2), came in at 450# ish. Still have a way to go.

Somebody called into Andrew Wilkow the other day, talking about towing 25-30 heads of cattle across Texas. If they stop to recharge a OTR EV semi, those cattle are dead.
Details.....
Thanks. Brad.

Funny thing is when they did they Ford Lightning against a gmc gasser comparison they used 5000lb trailer and didnt do much better...i think they stopped the lightning after 88miles!
So lets just say you get the Lightning or the Rivian that has the ability to tow 10,000lbs or more and lets say you are towing an old school 30-31' boat like a scarab or formula that is VERY close to that weight (including the steel trailer its on)
And give it the benefit of the doubt it will go 100miles before needing a charge. It will take over an hour to get a full charge back (most EV companies are putting out figures like 100miles in 10-15min of charge time...but thats for no load driving. Many i have read about say you get about 80%in about an hour on a super charger) but lets just figure a round number and say an hour charge time.
So i have made it down to Tampa FL towing my old 30" scarab behind my old crewcab dually in 16.5 hrs from Chicago......@1150miles
If i have to stop every 100 miles and now wait an hour to charge i have just added 11hrs of time to my run! Now it up to 27.5hrs to get there. Not worth my time just to "Feel good" about saving the climate (which we all know is garbage in regards to how much carbon it takes just to make the car let alone charge it!)

the good thing is if you decide to tow down to Fla for the weekend with an EV you should have enough time left over to grab lunch before it is time to head home so you can get back before the work week is over

yes but the Tesla superchargers charge you a$ .50 to $1.00 a minute "idle" time. meaning if you are done charging and dont move it right away they start charging you for taking the space. even the ballerinas' at the bar dont cost that much to watch.
