Volvo 7.4 fuel pump swap
Hello all,
I have a 97 Volvo 7.4 GSI MPI. Can the high pressure fuel pump the one mounted on the back of the engine with the housing that contains a float and needle valve be swapped out to something else. The gasket along is 60 bucks and most of the other components can't be replaced, has anyone had replaced or work on this fuel pump.

Would like to have what comes after GSI xxxx to make sure I'm looking at the same motor. The fuel pressure Reg is on the rail and should keep the pressure at 39 +/- 2
The problem is any fuel not used is returned to the VST. If the VST is removed then need to return to fuel filter housing or to fuel tank.
With some replumbing you should be able to attach a standard HP pump (60 psi) and the Reg will keep it at 39
