So after reading about this event for years we attended this year and it was insane. The snow was huge, handlebar high on the trails and in the upper parts of the mountain it was so deep dozens of seasoned riders got buried. We were a group of 6, 4 of which had never seen any snow nor have ever ridden a sled! So we flew into Denver and made the 200 mile ride up north (traffic/roads sucked due to the snow/accidents closed the main highway both trips). Resort was great, the staff and the food were over the top! Met some great people and even though there are a lot of racers in the group, Doc has such a diverse group of friends you will meet all sorts of people (non-racers). The rental sleds were ski-doo 800's and ridiculously fast.
A few first timer sled rider tips:
1. stay on the trail and never stop on the unpacked snow/fresh powder as your inexperience will leave the sled on its side and they are heavy MF'rs to get back upright (even worst in chest deep snow)
2. If you have lived in Florida your whole life, 9000+ feet will surely wind you while you are digging or trying to pull a sled out
3. 0 degrees or less IS COLD!
They got 7 feet of snow this weekend in the area. We never got that far up the mountain as what we had at 9000 ft was more than enough:

Great to see people get out and enjoy the ‘cold’ outdoors.
Pssst: if you go again, when stuck in the deep. If you have room, Roll the snowmobile over out of the trench you made onto fresh snow. Makes things easier.
Thanks for sharing your experience. As s fellow, and life long, braaper, I’m Glad you enjoyed it ! :thumbs
