I am looking for ideas on replacing the antenna on my 1990 SR1 292. The fiberglass is in poor shape (most likely beyond clear coating or epoxying). I am looking for options other than stock for replacement. I was considering getting a hand-held ship-to-shore radio and deleting the antenna all together then filling the hole. Are there any other options for shorter antennas? (I boat on Lake St Clair in MI which is a smaller lake so long range isn't a huge concern)

Something like this will probably work. You would need to change the mount.

You can use the stainless mount to replace your original and then use a 3-ft stainless whip. Should work well where you boat and it’ll be stow-able. The mount should be an exact replacement.
I may do the same on the 311. My glass antenna is getting pretty old.
