Question Honda Generator Model EU2000i

Anyone have any experience using this generator for boating? I like the feature to parallel them. If I need more power I could hook up a second one. Cost seems to be around $879.

I just bought an EU2000I. I haven't used it on the boat yet because I just got it and my boat is winterized but I have used it around the yard and it is really nice. It is lite and super quiet. I talked to 2 different people (1 sales person and 1 owner) who told me it should have any problems running a 9500-10,000BTU AC unit but they wouldn't go much over that.

Give Mayberry's a call. They were really helpful and had the best price that I found. I think mine was $859 with free shipping and no sales tax, give or take a few dollars. Mayberry's also sells maintenance items if you ever need them such as plugs, air filters etc.

They had one of these at the Annapolis, MD boat show and on the last day the guy wouldn't go no lower than $950.00 plus I would have had to pay sales tax.

I have oneand it works Great! I use it on the boat as a back up just in case the batteries go dead, Plus it will run the AC but just barely. I think it puts out 17 amps on a surge and my AC draws 18. Check the start up current on your AC before commiting. I think my AC is 5,000 BTU, No way will it run a 10K load properly. I keep mine on the swim platform when running to keep the fumes away from the cabin.

ccarloss,
Thanks for the info. I had a salesman start one up for me and I agree it is very quiet. I have to agree with Raypanic about the ac it may run 9500-10,000 but that would draw too many amps at starting.

Raypanic,
That's exactly what I want it for backup. Run a small AC and put it on my swimstep.

For the cost I figured I could buy 2. Use 2 when starting the AC and then shut on off perhaps.

Too bad you can't parallel a 2000 with a 1000. Atleast I don't think you can.

I just realized I forgot to post the link to Mayberry's in case you are interested http://www.mayberrys.com/honda/gener...ngenerator.htm

Again, not sure about the 9500-10,000, just passing along what 2 other people told me. I have a 5200 btu in my Sunsation. I'll have to check it again but I swore it said it draws around 5 amps and 505 watts. Maybe that is continuous and it is much higher at start up.

My AC is like 4-5 amps running but 18 when the compressor kicks in. This would be anytime the thermostat calls for the cooling. You could use two in parrallel but you could not shut one off because the call for the compressor to turn on may happen when the one is off. I will say this they are the quitest I have ever heard. To be sure Check the specs on the ac unit it will tell you the inrush. My set up was technically 1 amp short on the inrush but it still worked fine. Also if the AC is rated at a 18 amp inrush at 115V and the generator puts out 120 you have a little more to work with too. Find the specs!

Birddog,

My setup is a Cruisair SXF5, 5,000 BTU It will cool my PQ 38' cabin fairly well. I used it last summer on a 96 degree day and it was real humid. It took about 1/2hour before it cooled the inside to 70 and shut down. It could be a little larger but I would say no bigger than 7,000.

My specs: 5,000 BTU 6.3A running 18A. Start up. This is for the condenser pump. Then you also need to add the seawater pump to the amperage. Mine is about 1/2 amp. But like I said it all works good on my honda. 2000W

Thanks for all the info. For some reason I was thinking the initial start drew more amperage then subsequent compressor starts.

birddog,
Your right these are extremely light.
