Default Gel coat spray gun

What is the best gel coat specific gun if you were buying a new one?

This should be fun, when people post that on my HOK forum you get pretty much everything.
SATA and Awita LP400 make the list a lot, not sure of the SATA part number.

I am looking for a new clear and base gun was wondering about the newer high transfer rate guns. For what I do it has to be as smooth as possible, less time sanding and buffing.

Pretty much any gun will work as long as the the tip is 2mm. Unless you thin it a lot it going to be heavy orange peel no matter what you do anyway. It’s easy to work with but be ready for a ton of sanding.

Harbor Freight $15.99 spray gun. Drill out the tip to 1.5-2 mm and go at it. Throw away when done or get extended warranty, don't clean it and return it for a new one when it won't spray. (This is actually what the cashier told me I should do)

Rookie nailed it . A neighbor back in the day used to refinish and flip the bass boats with faded glitterflake -clear combo .he would go through 2 or 3 cheapo primer guns per boat ,the gel would set up in the gun he would toss it grab a new gun a new batch thinned with acetone and keep going

I second the harbor freight gun, I preferred the vacuum feed, old scool primer gun. I could get it to shoot a little better, but that's not saying much.

When I last sprayed gel there was a FiberLay warehouse between my house and the shop. They had a gun with a 2.5mm tip for about 75$ that worked well for me. This was a 40’ hull so anything that cut
down on sanding time was welcome. If it’s a big job, try different guns because the sanding is the time killer.

3m Accuspray with 2.0 ( red tips ) is the best option in my opinion. I own a fiberglass gel coat repair shop and that's all we use.

Accuspray is also a great option for you to use on any other project (stains, base, clear etc etc) the tips are disposable and the guns capable of anything. the starter kits goes for around $350.
